FUEGO / Se propone construir un centro de rescate y educación para niñas vulnerables, en la ciudad de Kajiado, 80 kms al sur de Nairobi. Como dice la ONG NIDRA, en esta ciudad «las jóvenes de las zonas rurales son vulnerables a prácticas culturales opresivas como los matrimonios precoces y la mutilación genital femenina. Por lo tanto, la necesidad de una instalación de este tipo no sólo es vital para el aprendizaje de las niñas rescatadas, sino que también es importante para mantenerlas en la institución y garantizar un aprendizaje continuo». El Ayuntamiento ha dado el visto bueno para construir este centro de rescate y un centro de salud para personas que viven con el SIDA en el mismo solar. Nuestra propuesta tiene como tarea principal construir un espacio que realmente pueda ser sentido como un hogar para estas chicas con muchos problemas. Buscamos algo, a la vez seguro y confortable, moderno pero que a la vez mantenga las raíces de la gente que vive en esta zona de Kenia. De este modo, la idea es construir un cilindro en cuyo centro se sitúa un fuego en un patio redondo y al aire libre. Este fuego es una estructura excavada en el suelo de 3 metros de diámetro y está diseñado con un banco a su alrededor, para permitir que la gente se reúna y converse alrededor del fuego. También es un lugar donde se puede cocinar y relajarse durante el tiempo libre del día. El fuego será la referencia de todos los demás espacios y queremos ser el símbolo del objetivo de este edificio, una luz permanente que represente el futuro para estas niñas vulnerables.

FIRE / This proposal is for the construction of a rescue and education centre for vulnerable girls, in the town of Kajiado, 80 kms south of Nairobi. As the NIDRA ONG requirement says as follows, in this town “young girls in the rural areas are vulnerable to oppressive cultural practices like early marriages and female genital mutilation. The need therefore for such a facility is not only vital for the learning of the rescued girls but also important in maintaining them in the institution to ensure continuous learning”. The has been given from the Town hall for building this rescue centre and a Health centre for people living with AIDS in the same plot. Our proposal has the principal task on building a space that can really be felt as a home for these girls with a lot of problems. We look for something, at the same time secure and comfortable, modern but at the same time keeping the roots of the people that live in this area of Kenya. In this way, the idea is to build with the shape of a cylinder, in which centre there is placed a fire-sitting in a round and open air patio. This fire-sitting is a structure carved in the ground with 3 meters of diameter and is designed with a bench all around it, to allow people to meet and converse around the fire. It is also a place where can be cook and relax during the free time of the day. The fire will be the reference of all other spaces and we want to be the symbol of the aim of this building a permanent light that represents the future for these vulnerable girls.
